The research activities of the Department are the following:

using of primary experience concerning the diagnostics of bacterial strains isolated from farm animal herds as well as from the environment in order to reasonably regulate the prevention of bacterial diseases of animals,
study of diagnostics, prevention and suppression of ruminant mastitis based on the isolation of bacterial strains as well as other parameters found by means of both physical and chemical methods, also the possibilities of influencing both natural and specific defense mechanisms of mammary gland,
study of the possibilities to detect the metabolites of selected bacterial pathogens in foods of animal origin as well as their subsequent implementation in the prevention of human intoxications and/or within this subject the following:

purification of 4 types of staphylococcal enterotoxins (SE) - i.e. A,B,C and D,
preparation of polyvalent specific antisera against these SE
development of monoclonal antibodies against SE - producing hybridomas
development of RIA methods to determine these SE
development of ELISA methods to determine SE
preparation of monoclonal antibodies against selected bacterial antigens in order to use them in the development of immunodiagnostical preparations.
